These dashboard and visualizations were developed by the North Carolina Partnership for Children and Cape Fear Collective to support local investments and decision-making to effect change for children and families. The first set of indicators, the Smart Start Community Indicators, serve as an extension of Smart Start’s Early Childhood Profile, providing a more comprehensive view of the needs of young children. The second set, related to the Healthy & Resilient Communities Initiative, were selected by a committee of experts to highlight metrics related to resilience.
Health is largely determined by social, economic, behavioral, and environmental factors, all of which affect health outcomes. These factors, known as social determinants of health, can serve as a barometer for regional wellness and quality of life. Twenty-one social determinants of health were selected, as part of the Healthy NC 2030 initiative, to be a public health focus for the state’s next decade. This overview radar chart explores how Robeson County is doing in comparison to the rest of the state for all indicators. Indicators closer to the circle’s center are more of a challenge in this region, while indicators closer to the edge of the circle are regional strengths.
The annual Rankings provide a revealing snapshot of how health is influenced by where we live, learn, work, and play. They provide a starting point for change in communities.
Our individual choices and behaviors impact health, and our health is also affected by the physical environment and social pressures in our communities. A community’s social pressures can include poverty, unemployment, lack of health insurance, incarceration, and housing problems. These social pressures can intensify the use of drugs and their impact on health. Suicide is another health problem that, like use of drugs, is strongly influenced by social pressures. This community health indicator dashboard presents information on these six community drivers of health.
This opioid indicator dashboard provides some key indicators of opioid harm. These include overdose deaths and Emergency Department (ED) visits for overdose, the proportion of overdoses that involve illicit drugs, and people with prescriptions for opioids. These numbers describe some, but not all, of the impact of opioids on the people of our state.
