About Us

Robeson Overcoming Adversity Through Resilience

ROAR (Robeson Overcoming Adversity Through Resilience) is a committed group of stakeholders that meet monthly to learn, to partner, and to help build awareness of ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) and grow resilience for our community by focusing on five protective factors known to help buffer the effects of ACEs and essentially prevent child abuse and neglect. While the group boasts the new, formal name of ROAR, the work has been in progress for many years. County leaders in health and family service organizations began to recognize that lingering effects of childhood trauma are not just individual problems but hazardous for our entire community.

About Us

ROAR (Robeson Overcoming Adversity Through Resilience) is a committed group of stakeholders that meet monthly to learn, to partner, and to help build awareness of ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) and grow resilience for our community by focusing on five protective factors known to help buffer the effects of ACEs and essentially prevent child abuse and neglect. While the group boasts the new, formal name of ROAR, the work has been in progress for many years. County leaders in health and family service organizations began to recognize that lingering effects of childhood trauma are not just individual problems but hazardous for our entire community.

Since the middle of 2021, Robeson County Partnership for Children has served as the backbone agency to steer the collaborative work. Some major goals of ROAR are to build resilience and awareness of ACEs in schools, families, and community; to create a safe, nurturing physical and emotional environment at home, at school, and in the community; and to use data to inform collective action. Multiple strategies have been identified for the group including using social media to raise community awareness. Our overall goals and strategies are outlined in our Community Prevention Action Plan that can be accessed online – https://bit.ly/CPAP-tri-county

We have recently established a Facebook page for the group and we encourage all community members to connect with this page. We will share important updates related to our progress, but also related education and opportunities. Liking the ROAR Facebook page is a great way for anybody interested in knowing more about ACEs and resiliency and how we can help improve outcomes in our community to connect to this community movement. The Facebook page can be found here https://bit.ly/ROARfacebook

Our Supporting Partners

ROAR is mainly supported with funding by Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust and The Department of Health and Human Services. We have also recently received support from the NC Department of Human Services and NC Partnership for Children by being selected as one of the funded counties in the NC Healthy and Resilient Communities Initiative.

We invite and encourage our community to connect with the progress and work of ROAR. We are always interested in adding businesses and individuals to our stakeholder and partner lists.
